We Never Fight Alone

I see You showing up like never before
You will never stop fighting for me

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, and the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” — Ephesians 6:12

Daily we undertake battles. Some of them seem earthly, like being kind to someone who annoys us or keeping a house clean. But everyday we fight many spiritual battles too. We battle our own wills, thoughts of judgment, anger, frustration, and evil. Our struggle is so much more than just skin deep. It is a battle against spiritual forces.

Thankfully, we have Jesus, who conquered death and sin, and God, who is almighty. God knows the fullness of the battle. He sees it all, and God wants to fight for us. That is why he sent Jesus.

“For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”— John 3:17

Jesus saved the world, and we now have power over death, sin, and our enemies. We can fight spiritual battles. That sounds a little scary though. Spiritual battles sound a lot darker and deeper than normal battles. But God does not just give us the power to fight battles, he gives us armor and weapons to fight battles. Ephesians has the full armor list.

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” — Ephesians 6:13-18b

A full wardrobe of armor! Every tool we will ever need in our battles against darkness. And you know what else? We don’t fight alone. God fights with us and next to us.

In this song “Fighting for Me” the lyrics revolve around God fighting for us. Jesus came to save the world, so that the Holy Spirit could join us and we would not be alone in the battle. The Bible says:

“The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you…” - Deuteronomy 1:30a
God is coming along side of us in our battles. More than that He is going before us. He knows what is coming and He starts fighting before we even arrive. He goes before us in battle. What a radical love God has for us! He is willing to fight for us. The Bible says:

“He will drive out your enemies before you. Saying ‘Destroy them!’” — Deuteronomy 33:27b
Destroy them. Not even remove them, destroy them. God completely removes our enemies, like fear, darkness, negative thoughts, frustration, judgment, and our own wills. That is the kind of God we fight for.

We have the amor and God is already in the battle with us. So put on your armor. Pray about your battles. Be strong and courageous (See Deuteronomy 31:6). God is with you in the trenches. He will bring peace and strength. He will show up in ways you did not expect. He will protect you. The Lord almighty, is fighting for you. And the Bible says:

“In all things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us.” — Romas 8:37

You are more than a conquerors through Jesus. Go fight your battles! God is already there waiting for you.
