6 God Sung Lullabies

I am so excited to continue last times blog post with a list of some of the God sung lullabies I have found. Before you read this post make sure to read My Thoughts on God Sung Lullabies, so you can follow along. So many people commented on that post, and you guys shared some great suggestions. I have really been loving some of the songs you all suggested. (I have a feeling I will be doing more posts like this soon.)

Like I pointed out in the first post, to be Biblical I believe they all need to be based on the Bible. Because of copyright rules I can’t list the full lyrics, and some of the verses I list will connect to very specific parts of the song. If you click on the title of the song though that will take you to a YouTube music video so you can read the lyrics for yourself.

Alright, let’s jump into my thoughts on the songs and the Bible verses that tie into them.

1. "Dancing on the Waves” by Bethel Music

I alway thought this song tied into the story of Jesus walking on the water, but the more I look at it, the less it does. There is a part of it that ties into that story, but the main verse this song revolves around is:

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” — Revelation 3:20

The whole first part of the song is inviting you to come out of the boat and into the life of faith. I really love the chorus of this song because it points back to waves. As we walk the life of faith, we get to fall into God’s love and not just walk on the waves but dance on them holding fast to our savior, as we are engulfed in the arms of Jesus, in his love.

“For great is your love, reaching to the

heavens;

your faithfulness reaching to the skies.” — Psalm 57:10

We get to watch how Jesus walks on the waves and we get to tread the paths he shows us. (For more thoughts about walking on the waves check out Walking on the Waves.)

These are two other verses I thought of when listening to this song:

“You turned my wailing into dancing;

you removed my sackcloth and clothed

me with joy.” — Psalm 30:11

“This is what the Lord says—

he who made a way through the sea,

a path through the mighty waters,” — Isaiah 43:16

2. “House on a Hill” by Amanda Lindsey Cook

This song has some very beautiful lyrics. It is only vocals and piano which bring a really peaceful feel. The theme of the song is stillness in the Lord. He is standing there ready to listen, cuddle, and heal you. He is always there with you and won’t leave you for a moment.

At first I though this really played into the house idea from the title, but as I was flipping through verses this one really stuck out to me.

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

    I will be exalted among the nations

    I will be exalted in the earth.” — Psalm 46:10

In the quiet, we can experience God in a new way. When we still ourselves, stop moving and just sit with God, we learn how to know that he is God. We are able to ask the questions we have been afraid to ask because we are reminded to this verse.

“Great is our Lord and mighty in power;

his understanding has no limit.” — Psalm 147:5

In the stillness of rest, whether that be a house on a hill or your closet, We know that when we draw near to God he will be right there next to us (see James 4:8a-10). Before we even enter that place of stillness God is there with us ready to hug us close and hear our heart.

Extra verses I found for this song:

“When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;

he brought me into a spacious place.” — Psalm 118:5

“Before they call I will answer;

while they are still speaking I will hear.” — Isaiah 65:24

3. “Come Out of Hiding” by Steffany Gretzinger

(I am not going to spend a ton of time on this song because I have already written a whole blog post on you called: Coming into His Love.)

Each and every day we have the choice of letting God into our pain or not showing it to him. We can hide in shame of what we have done, but the Bible tells us not to fear because of this verse:

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8

We don’t have to fear judgment because the Lord gave up his life for us long before we deserved it. Jesus loves you and he understands the pain and shame of our sin. When we let him in, the Bible tells us:

“As a mother comforts her child,

so will I comfort you.” — Isaiah 66:13a

In our sadness and suffering God with comfort you. When we expose our heart and cry out to him for help he will come rushing in.

Other verses I found for this song:

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.”— John 15:9

“I press on towards the goal to win that prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” — Phillipians 3:14

“Be those who suffer he delivers in their suffering;

he speaks to them in their affliction.” — Job 36:15

4. “Cecie’s Lullaby” by Steffany Gretzinger

I adore this song! It is the first song I ever connected the lullaby type to. The words are beautiful and I believe they build off of this verse:

“For I am the Lord your God

who takes hold of your right hand

and says to you, do not fear;

I will help you.” — Isaiah 41:3

That verse paints the picture of God’s great love for us. A hand holding God. If you think of love stories, hand holding is big step. It has turned into a great show of affection and protection. Parents hold the hands of children when they cross the road so they don’t get hurt or lost. That is your Father. He holds your hand. Helping you along in life.

We get the opportunity to reach up and grab his hand. He is right there ready to listen to us. The Bible says:

“The Lord is near to all who call on him,

to all who call on him in truth.” — Psalm 145:18

We get to press into his love and truth, and that will carry us.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

5. “Rescue” by Lauren Daingle

I had not listened to this songs in a while, but as I was scrolling through my music, I realized this was a God sung lullaby too.

This song is based of  the prayer in Psalm:

“Rescue me from my enemies, Lord,

for I have hidden myself in you.” — Psalm 143:9

The song is a reflection of the answer to this prayer. Over and over in the Bible, we hear of God rescuing his people. The biggest example is when he frees them from Egypt, but we see this pattern over till Jesus comes and he frees us forever.

One of my favorite verses about God’s protection and the way he helps us is:

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.” — Exodus 14:14

What a powerful verse and what a hard thing to do. Sometimes calling out to the Lord is the biggest step we can take but it can feel like the smallest. We are doers God created us that way, but learning to be still and rest in the Lord is also so important.

Here are the other verses I found in correlation to this song.

“When I said, “My foot is slipping.”

Your unfailing love, Lord,

supported me.” — Psalm 94:18

“God is our refuge and strength,

an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

6. “Good & Loved” by Travis Greene with Steffany Gretzinger

At first I was not sure if I wanted to include this song in this list. It look me a little bit to realize that it was actually a God sung lullaby. There are a lot of quotes Bible verses in the song, but the whole song revolves around this verse.

“For the Lord is good and his love endures

forever;

his faithfulness continues through all

generations.” — Psalm 100:5

From the title you can deduct that this is a song about God’s goodness and love. At first I was very confused by this song, because I thought it was just a worship song. The lyrics I am good really bothered me at first because I am not good. I do love God but I am not good. Over the next few times of listening to it my eyes were opened, and I saw that this was talking about God’s goodness and overwhelming love for us. I realized it was written for God to be speaking to us. The Bible says:

“But the Lord’s unfailing love

surrounds the one who trusts him.” — Psalms 32:10

That is the beauty of this song. We aren’t good but God is and his love for us is great. The Lord has washed you with love every day.

These are the last few verses I found for this song.

“Do not fear, for I am have redeemed you;

I have summoned you by name, you

are mine.” — Isaiah 43:1b

“The Lord is good,

a refuge in times of trouble.

He cares for those who trust in him.” — Nahum 1:7

“For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribe.” — Deuteronomy 10:17

Now it is your turn. Look through the Bible listen to your favorite God sung lullaby and write down the verses that tie into that song. Feel free to share the song and verses in the comments bellow.
