Words added by me

Today I bring you the second part of this song list. I am really excited to share these reflections with you today. I pray that these songs, words, and verses will encourage you, no matter what you are walking though.

If you have not read part one yet make sure to do that first, since that list is longer and the beginning of my thoughts. These six songs are all songs that spoke to me and encouraged me later in quarantine. Many of these songs have more general refections are not so related to COVID.

1. “Clean” by Hillsong

This song is so simple and slow. It washes over me in the truth that because of Jesus, I do not have to fear the world. The Bible says:

“and by his wounds we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5c

Through His blood we are drawn close, and sickness has no place to harm us. Through this song, I was able to remind my head that I am safe and forgiven. This song was also a one of great peace for me. It did not matter how upset I had been, it helped me slow down and rest in Jesus.

2. “Not For a Moment (After All)” by Vertical Worship

I love the slow pace of this song. It is a perfect one to stand in your room and worship. It is one that can be easily memorized and it is such a good reminder of God’s presence.

Jesus says that he will carry our burdens, but at times I think He does more. Not only does he cary our burdens He carries us. In His strong arms and nail pierced hands, He lifts us close to his own heart and carries us.

The word “forsake” means (according to google)

  • Abandon
  • Renounce or give up

God does just the opposite. He “stays with”.  Not for a moment does He abandon you. He stays with you through thick and thin.

(I have a song story on this that will be coming out very soon!)

3. “Peace” by Bethel music

“For I, too, had a hiding place when things were bad. Jesus was this place the Rock cleft for  me.” — The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, page 183

Even when hope seemed gone, when I could not decide whether to be mad or heartbroken, I was held. The clearest picture always popped into my head as I prayed for comfort, Jesus holding me close and a small me curled up in His lap.

I still might not have understood what my emotions were feeling, or how to make sense of the situation, but I always dried my tears washed with peace. The peace is unexplainable! This song was really encouraging. It is such a slow peaceful song. Peace from Jesus is the best kind, Jesus say it himself.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.” — John 14:27

4. “Forever Amen” by Steffany Gretzinger

Amen means “and so be it” which is a way of declaring, we are trusting God with everything we just prayed for. In this song, it is used the same way, just leaning into the declaring and believing side.

I really enjoyed declaring what this song was saying over my life. That Jesus is the center of my world, that I was made to love God, and that God’s word gives me life. This song is a great reminder of where our identity is.

5. “We Will Not Be Shaken” by Bethel Music

One Sunday morning, we sang this song. The lyrics hit me so powerfully that day. What a true blessing we have been given: a firm foundation! Because of Jesus giving His life for us, we can stand tall and strong and don’t have to shake. We are on a firm foundation.

A verse that popped into my head that illustrated this concept is in Isaiah. Through all of this we are not shaken!

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;

I have summoned you by name; you

are mine.

When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you;

And when you pass through the rivers,

they will not sweep over you.

When you walk through fire,

you will not be burned;

the flames will not set you ablaze” — Isaiah 43:1-2

6. “The Blessing” by Elevation Worship & Kari Job

This song is a declaration, which is the biggest reason I fell in love with it. It is sung over you. And by changing just a few pronouns as you sing you can easily sing it over yourself. I really love this song and am planning to do a song story on it very soon, because God has taught me so much through this song.

The lyrics to this song are inspired from the verses in Numbers, but you can see this blessing carried through all the Bible. Especially in Psalms and the end of Pauls letters.

“‘“           The Lords bless you

and keep you;

The Lord make his face shine on you

and be gracious to you;

The Lord turn his face towards you

and give you peace.” — Numbers 6:24-26

What songs or revelations have you gained from going through COVID? How has God used songs through this time to strengthen you and give you peace?
