My heart has been pulled towards people who are struggling and down trodden recently. I have been in seasons of suffering and I understand how verses, books, and songs can make me feel cared for and loved. That is what I am bringing to you today, some songs, verses, and books to comfort you and give you strength.
If your heart is heavy and you need some encouragement, I hope that this blesses you. God is in the healing business, he is the doctor always by your side.
Songs
1. House on a Hill by Amanda Lindsey Cook
I love the lullaby feel to this song. It is as though Jesus is speaking to you, reminding you he is all you need. If you are feeling weighted down while trying to fall a sleep, this is a great song. The melody is nice and slow and you can press into the gentleness of Jesus.
(I am releasing more blog posts on lullaby like songs soon.)
2. This Close — Steffany Gretzinger
This is a worship song to sing, out loud to declare with your voice and believe in your mind. Choosing to trust the words that God is this close. Close enough we don’t even have to reach for him, because he is already holding us.
3. Still In Control — Jesus Culture & Mack Brock
I love the lyrics in this song. It pulls on real emotions. This is a wonderful song to declare over crushing days or times when you need to cry. Choosing to say, “It is well,” can be so hard, but God is still in control. He is protecting you from things you will never even have to think of. God is always constant.
4. God is Love — Chris Renzema
This song is to help remind you of God’s love. His arms are not closed; he is still ready to embrace you. The Lord is filled with love for you, even in this time of hurt. He has not inflicted this pain upon you, he is a Father who loves you. In this time he is ready to hold you while you rest.

Books
1. Finding God in My Loneliness by Lydia Brownback
I have quoted this book before in past articles and this book teaches about why you can never truly escape loneliness, but how, through Christ, you can grow closer to him because of it.
Fifteen is a collection of heart poetry. Amie shares her how flowers can bloom out of ashes. These poems were written out of a heart that has experienced hurt, and will help you journey through you own struggles.
(This book, I have been helping launch for the last two months and I have read all the poems in it. You can still preorder it in Paperback or Ebook, and receive the preorder goodies.
This book confronts questions on why the world needs your unique life, and why you are begged to hold on. God is good and he will help you thrive again. Also this post is part of a blog tour for Fifteen, with a giveaway! Check out this post to learn how to enter!
And if that is not enough fun there is also a scavenger hunt, and this blog post has one of the words hidden in it! More details on the scavenger hunt here.)
3. Daring to Hope by Katie Davis Majors
This true story has so many powerful moments in it of processing grief and how to hope when your world keeps getting messed up over and over again. It also has fun stories mixed in and will help you find a reason to keep hoping.
